double exposing film means taking two photos on top of each other before the roll of film is developed - or exposing a frame twice. i usually start by shooting the entire roll once through on my 35mm film SLR camera, recording which frames I want to double expose in my notes. then i'll wind the roll of film back into the canister to put it back in my camera to shoot on top of the frames i've recorded. The highlights of the second photo show in the shadows of the first.
